After I gave birth, I figured I would just “bounce back.”
My mom told me she did. My coworker told me “When I started breastfeeding, the fat just melted right off.”
Well, maybe it was because I didn’t have any cravings during pregnancy, but in the first couple of months postpartum, all I wanted was chocolate.
And Burger King.
I tried to balance that out with healthy meals at home as I’ve read that a high-sugar diet isn’t great for healthy breastmilk, but I craved chocolate so bad. Don’t get me wrong, I like chocolate, but when I was pregnant I had no desire for it. Chocolate wasn’t exactly an aversion during my first pregnancy; it just wasn’t a priority.
So, I never lost my baby fat, never fit back into my size 4 jeans (let’s face it, I barely fit into my size 8 jeans).
And, I don’t blame it entirely on the fact that I consumed between one and two pounds of chocolate a week for the first 6 or 8 weeks postpartum. I also did nothing but sit on the couch, watching my Korean dramas and feeding my baby. I mean, I went on a couple of walks each week and did the necessary meal prep and housework, but we have a pretty small house and I only do laundry once a week.
Then, at 6 months postpartum, my husband asked if we could try for another baby. I wasn’t expecting a miracle right away. It took us 13 months to conceive the first one.
Three months later, I was feeling gross on New Year’s Day, and I took a test to see if it was morning sickness.
Surprise!!
It was the flu.
And a baby.
And, I think I’ll just donate my size 4 jeans because I don’t think I’ll ever wear them again.
On the plus side, I no longer want chocolate. Now, it just is tasteless to me, so… I’ll eat fruit snacks instead.
